There is a game going on in the Bookmooching Group on LibraryThing which I think is great, so I thought I´d try it here on BookMooch.
If you would like to participate, please check the wishlist of the member who posted last in this thread, and if you have something from their wishlist you are willing to send, you post here with "I tag xxx", list and reserve it on BM, they Mooch it from you and you send the book to her/him. So you are now last and hopefully someone will find something for you and so on. All mooches should be international.
If you'd like to participate, please make sure there is something on your wishlist and you have 3 points available for Mooching.
So I´ll start by offering a copy of Jon Krakauer : Into the Wild (good condition with some minor cover creases and the lower back cover corner is beginning to split and curl).
If anyone would like to participate then they should 'tag' me for the book, I will reserve it for them, they Mooch it from me. All mooches should be international.
I am then the last name on the list and someone finds a book from my WL and tags me with the title.
If no-one wants to play, then my copy of Into the Wild finds a good home and all ends there.
I've been playing this on LT and had great fun: you get something you like, you send something the person will like who gets it, and you even know the postage costs in advance (if it´s too far and too expensive, you just don´t tag the member). Hopefully it will be as popular on here as on LT and BookCrossing :)
Shamelessly copied from DubaiReader on LibraryThing who shamelessly copied it from Schwester at BookCrossing :)

Just discovered this game, and I thought that it looked pretty cool. :-) Only, I would rather not send anything international, and out of fairness I wouldn't feel right receiving anything internationally, either. Is it breaking the rules if I play this game?
And also, what do you do when the last one tagged has been inactive for a long time? Who is next? - Daisy
Great ...I would love Butcher Boy. Yes I started the 1001 books & was shocked at how few I had read.
I'll look at your wish list I'm hopeful I have a book for you. - Gerri
Thank you Kerry.
Gerri, I have Little Women but I hvae to see if it is a more simplified one for children or the original one. If it is for children, then I have Butcher Boy I can tag you with. Also, we have a lot of books in common , I guess you are following the 1001 list also :) - duygu basman
Hi Duygu,
I can tag you with a copy of The Sparrow, posted and reserved for you. The next step would be for you to check the wishlists of the other members of this forum to see if you can fulfill someone elses wish.
-Kerry- - Kerry
Jenni, you should pick another player to tag instead of me. I'll keep an eye on the forum to see if I can jump in, but I do have an odd wishlist. Maybe when the game catches hold and there are more players I'll be able to slip back in. - Mary H
Sorry to be so slow in responding. I'm AFK pretty much until the end of the month working on a special project.
My intention in setting this up was to encourage international mooching. I think it's great that Mary H offered up a domestic mooch to LauraTS and I hope she finds someone international to tag soon.
OK, I've just noticed in large letters on the instructions that all Mooches should be international!
So Laura TS still needs tagging - my apologies. - DubaiReader
Hi Nina,
The benefit is that you (hopefully) get a book from your wishlist. In addition to that, you may find other moochers with similar tastes whom you may be able to trade books with in the future. - Kerry
I'm not sure I understand how this works, but I shall be happy to join. Can someone explain for the benefit of the (apparently) feeble minded (or bleary-eyed). thanks. - NinaBryna
@ Kerry ::: I have this edition of Lawrence Hill : Book Of Negroes. Unless you specifically want the edition you have on your wishlist, I will tag you with this one. - birdbrain
@Robin
I think it might be better to wait until you have something ready to send. Hopefully, there will be many opportunities to tag and be tagged :-)
Still waiting to be tagged: Kerry - Jenni Canuck
Ok, so if I understood this correctly, I'm now supposed to look at Kerry's WISHlist, and see if there's anything on it I have?
I actually might have Asimov's Mother's Day, but I haven't read it yet. I did *just* finish Blanche cleans up, but I loved it so much, I didn't want to give it up.
So, maybe I shouldn't play? - Robin
I guess I'm playing it wrong, but I don't really want Into the Wild. However, I have an extra copy of a book on your wishlist which I have now posted and reserved for you. Hopefully that will not mess up the game too much. - Kerry
Participant List: Updated 2015-08-08 To prevent your tag offer getting lost in the comments section, please write a NEW MESSAGE each time you tag someone.
Someone asked off-thread if it was okay to request a 2-mooch minimum for international shipments and I think, considering the postage costs, that's perfectly fine. The only complication I can think of is that this probably means offering two wishlisted books.
With any luck, this will generate a flurry of activity that will get noticed by more moochers who will then rush to join our group. *sending out positive vibes while keeping fingers crossed*
New to the tag game? Post a message here when you join and I can add the link to your wishlist. Also, because messages randomly disappear, it's a good idea to sign up to receive forum messages by email and to include your BMID in your message. ~jenni the eternal optimist BMID canuck_jenni

Time for a new thread! I've copied the general info below.

I think I should have my name removed from the participants list because I rarely mooch from overseas anymore due to increases in postage prices that mean it usually works out cheaper to purchase a book from somewhere than to mooch internationally. I wouldn't want someone to wade through my wishlist and then for me to turn round and say that actually I didn't want the book. - kathers
Hi Melanie,
Sorry not to reply earlier, but I have been rather out of the loop lately. I am indeed interested, so please let me know and I will mooch it off you.
Thanks a lot!
Mónica - Mosca
Jacquie, you made my point. Email to your moochee the date the book is received. For Example: book has postmark shipp date of 01April2014, books received 15May2014. This tiny bit of info is gold to the shipper, and to other international moochers. I do use tracking numbers and first class mail, but it is no good until after delivery is made and the postal clerk logs in the information. Thanks for the input! - drummergirl
drummergirl,
Once we hand our parcels over to the postal service - wherever in the world it is - things are out of our hands. I send all my international packages by economy rate post, which should in theory be surface mail, yet happily most seem to be sent by airmail.
Many of the packages I receive from overseas have a French customs scanning label on them. I've no idea how long some packages might remain in customs, sometimes I receive half a dozen on the same day, from all over the world.
Packages could be held up in transit in the original country, leaving the original country, or in transit in the destination country.
It's all in the hands of the postal authorities, plus customs. - jacquie
To international receivers, please post to your moochee the DATE you received the book. This will help determine if the USPS tracking system is working and also whether to continue sending to your country. For example, Israel is by far taking longer than normal for delivery from the USA: this information tells me to advise new moochers from Israel to be aware of a possible 2-3 week delay for delivery. Once our global postal system has the book, we have NO control on customs houses, delivery times, delivery to correct address. Same can be said traveling to the USA. Thanks for use the soap box. - drummergirl
that's a cool idea. right now I do not have the points to actively participate, but I probably will eventually, *mumbles to self* now how do I remember to join when I do.... - Ellelarondelle
I really REALLY want to read Harry Potter 4, but it's in Italy and the person who has it says it costs too much to send to South Korea.
He'll probably send it to someone in Europe. If you successfully mooch it from Gianmarco, and then send it to me in South Korea, I will give you 9 points: 3 for the book, 3 for sending it, and 3 for your trouble.
I've checked Gianma90's inventory, and the Harry Potter book is no longer listed. Sorry. If you find another copy that someone would be willing to send to France, I'll send it to you. - jacquie
I already received Absurdistan and I've never heard of What is the What, but I would LOVE A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. I would love to mooch it. If you need me to mooch 2 or more books form you, I will also mooch What is the What.
Sorry I didn't see your message earlier.
-Ashley - Ashley
Hi Jenn,
That would be amazing, I am definitely still interested :)
Off to check out other people's wishlists to see what I can fulfil now.... - Samantha
:-D Yes, I am interested. I've just read The Cronoliths and I am curious about his other books. Please let me know when you add them to your inventory. - Mosca

Please---- there's a real shortage of good stitching books on this site (and I don't mean things like "Home and Garden: Christmas in Stitches") and clearly a real thirst for those books. When I first joined, my first few books that I listed were needlework books and they were all snatched up in a matter of hours. My inventory has been picked clean of needlework books. Please, if you see an interesting stitching/needlework/beading book at a yard sale or used book store, can you get it and post it? I guarantee it won't be sitting on your list long.
Especially you readers in Australia/new Zealand and South Africa. You probably don't realize this but you have a number of wonderful Stitchers who publish beautiful books. They are really hard to get here in America. - Gretchen Ann
@Jacquie The only way I can think of is exporting each individual wishlist and then amalgamate them in an Excel sheet. At least, that way you can quickly search for a book or author. - Mosca
I wish there were some way of amalgamating and displaying everyone's wishlists (with BM name against wishlisted book) to make for quicker searching. It must be a dreamy sort of day, because that doesn't seem easily possible. - jacquie
Can my name be added to the tag game list? Thanks! (PS. Just added a couple of new books and going to be adding more this week so please come in and take a look at my inventory!!) - Arianne
Sorry Melanie,
I know I am being thick.............. but I still don't know how I can make the heart and the name appear on these comments when I want to tag someone. - Kathy Arkwright
Hi Clare,
I have 'The Queens Fool' and 'Meridon' by Philippa Gregory if you are interested. Will list them on Bookmooch with reservations for you.
Please check my inventory. Kind Regards, Kathy - Kathy Arkwright
I can't find any of your wishlist books to offer but would like to be involved if I can. Would anyone be interested in Blessed is the fruit by Robert Antoni: Robert Antoni : Blessed is the Fruit (Faber Caribbean)
Review: Acclaimed Trinidadian writer Robert Antoni's second novel tells the life stories of two West Indian women: Lilla, the white mistress of a dilapidated colonial mansion, and Vel, the longtime black servant who lives with her. The two women have always kept an emotional distance by the accidents of their birth, but when Vel finds herself pregnant, Lilla puts her to bed in her own bedroom. Writing lyrically and convincingly in the voices of the two women themselves, Antoni lets them tell their life stories--a heady mixture of sex, religion, myth, and the musicality of their own inner languages. Antoni's first novel, Divina Trace won the Commonwealth Writers Prize. - Clare
Just searching to see who I can offer a book to and noticed that the fourth member on the list is on vacation, possibly inactive: bio:duygusu Shame as I have a book they are looking for.
Also, how do I tag someone? - Clare
Hi Jenn (Birdbrain), thank you so much for the offer of the books. I would definitely like to mooch them from you please. I saw my name tagged but didn't realise it was me as my username is Rhydowen so got a bit confused at first. Then I clicked my name on the list above and it slowly dawned on me! - Clare
Someone from this forum sent me two books from my wishlist. I could not figure out from the info who performed this random act of kindness. So, I will thank you all! They both arrived on my birthday--no joke!! Thanks, bamagirl1111

@ Gerri, Received the book and the extra cd today, thanks so much! Actually though it was Robin who mentioned that she likes to listen to David Sedaris so I will offer to send David Sedaris : David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall to her. I appreciate the thought though! - Kerry
Gerri, thank you. I will mooch the Zafon, I should have taken Dead to Worse off my wishlist, thanks for letting me know it was still on there, and I actually really like to listen to David Sedaris, so I'll pass up the book version of Flames. THANK YOU SO MUCH. - Robin
dubaireader,
Please can I mooch Undead and Unreturnable by Maryjanice Davidson
unless you are saving it for someone else???
Thanks ever so.......
Kathy - Kathy Arkwright

I'm not having much luck searching through these lists, so I thought I'd offer a couple of books whose authors pop up fairly frequently - but not the titles I have. Maybe mine are early titles, I don't know.
If anyone would like:
Undead and Unreturnable by Maryjanice Davidson
or
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris, just give me a shout.
Meanwhile I'll keep searching :) - DubaiReader
Jacquie I have added and reserved the following for you: Murder on Lenox Hill; Murder on Marble Row; Murder on Bank Street; Tell me, Pretty Maiden; Demons are a Ghoul's Best Friend; Three Bedrooms, one corpse; Evans to Betsy; Death Perception; A Royal Pain. I have added condition notes for them all, if you don't want any of them for any reason, just let me know. - kathers

Let me know if you want the book
Next mailing will be after July 9th - Gerri
Hi Robin,
It pays to whine...lol
I have listed & reserved for you
1. A hardcover copy of The Angel's Game
2. A hardcover copy of From Dead to Worse.
3. A paperback copy of When You are engulfed in Flames (not an audio book as noted on your wishlist)
Let me know if you want any or all of these books
Please note mailing will be after July 9th. - Gerri
Robin, haven't actually gone through all your wishlist but I do have, 'Cockatiels at seven' and 'Death of a snob' on my TBR shelf. Can you wait until I read them? - Kathy Arkwright
Thanks to skiving off to drop in at an Anglophone section booksale this afternoon, I've managed to tag Mosca with 'Say it with poison' and list several other wishlisted books. How much will it take before people say that BM is no longer stalled? - jacquie
Kathy, all you need to do is post the book and reserve it for Peta (enter her BM id (peta158) in the reserve for field. I generally use the email recommendation feature in case they do not check this forum regularly. - Kerry
What a brilliant idea!! I would do the same but I have such a huge TBR list I wouldn't have time to list them all...........but I will check out other people's wishlists and see if I can help. - Kathy Arkwright
How about if I give you all access to my TBR piles (http://www.librarything.com/profile/cougargirl1967) and then you could give me an idea what to put on top of my pile!
I have a lot less time online since I moved so I'll let you all browse for yourself. Although I have to warn you, I have books across 2 states, so some will get read quicker. :-)
Sonja
"Born to Sing, Forced to Work" - Sonja
To the contrary I have a pile of books that I have not listed because with 270+ points I do not need more points BUT if I see someone on here looking for a book I will ask if they want to mooch it then post & reserve it for them.
Everybody has their own way of Bookmooching.
Happy Mooching to all
Gerri 07 - Gerri
@Stephanie - I agree that "if I am willing to get rid of a book, I have already listed it"; yes, I have a permanent inventory of over 200 books. However, knowing that a fellow BookMoocher is very very interested in one of the books on my TBR list may make me bump it to nearer the top of my reading list. And I'll dare to say even more so if that is someone with whom I've exchanged books in the past. Whatever we do that might make books circulate more within a very sluggish BM is welcome, especially to those of us who have no choice but to send and receive internationally. - jacquie
It started out as a “tag” game where the person who gave a book would be next in line to get a book, but there were so few participants that we started a “free for all” where any group member can tag another. It works best with large wishlists; small and/or esoteric wishlists, less so. Having more people participate improves the odds that you will score one or more wishlist hits.
Over the past year, BookMooch activity has slowed down so this is a way to get things moving again. There are lots of people who aren’t adding new books because they have lots of points but can’t find anything to spend them on. When people join this game, the group members browse each other’s wishlists and when they have someone’s wishlisted book, they offer it up to that person, i.e. the book owner initiates the mooch. And, since that’s the intent of the group, no one feels like they are being pressured or being stalked. In a small way, it gets books back into the system.
That's great Jacquie, let me know when you have them. I also have The black echo, from your wishlist (and will have the following books when I am done reading them) - Mosca
I'd like to join too.........I love looking for books for other people and you never know I might get something from my own wishlist at the same time!!! {:-) - Kathy Arkwright
hey everyone, i'd like to join!
i usually only have a few books up at a time, but i try to get a few new ones on every month.
my wishlist and inventory are (usually) mainly young adult books and some (non-ya) romance and fantasy, in case you want to check it out! - tia
@Mosca and Jenni Canuck:
Thank you so much for offering, I am so, so, so, sorry I haven't responded as I've been away!
Would it be very bad form for me to accept BOTH your offers now? *blush* Because I would love those books, if they're still available but I don't want to mess up the game (more than I already have :P)
Thanks!
Sophie - SLim
What a great idea!
And thanks to Kerry for tagging me :)
I really have to go to bed now, but I'll be back tomorrow to see what I can offer. I'm short of books to post out right now !! - DubaiReader
